Step 1

Which door is right for me?

All three work beautifully in a London extension. Ask yourself one question: how will you use it most of the year?

Most glass, best seal

Lift & slide

Very big glass panels that slide smoothly and seal tightly when closed. Best for wide openings, garden views all year and draught-free winters.

Lift & slide

Slimmest frames, lower cost

Slim sliding

Very thin frames and a clean look. Ideal for medium-sized openings in a sheltered garden, and usually a little cheaper.

Slim sliding

Open the whole wall

Bi-fold

Folds right back so the kitchen and garden become one space in summer. When they're closed, you'll see a frame about every metre.

Bi-fold

Not sure?

Send us the width and height of the opening, or a photo of your builder's drawing. We'll suggest the best option and show you the price for each.

Step 2

What will it cost?

The price depends mainly on three things: the size of the opening, the type of door, and the glass (double or triple). Fitting, the survey and delivery are included in our prices.

  • Use the sizing tool on any door page to see the panel sizes for your opening.
  • Save it to your free account and you'll get a budget straight away once our price list is live. Until then, we'll send it within 2 working days.
  • Your formal quote comes after a quick technical check, with everything listed and nothing hidden.
  • You pay a deposit when you order, then the rest in stages as your doors are delivered and fitted.

Common worries

Will it be draughty, leak, or break the rules?

Will big glass doors be cold or draughty?

Not if they're made and fitted well. Modern aluminium doors have a thermal break inside the frame and double or triple glazing. Lift & slide doors also press down onto rubber seals when closed, so they're especially draught-proof. We tell you the exact insulation figure for your doors before you order.

Will rain come in at the bottom?

A completely level floor from kitchen to garden needs a drain outside the door and the right floor build-up, which your builder needs to know about early. We give them the details. On exposed spots, we may suggest a tiny step (15 mm or less) instead. It's just as easy to walk over and even safer against heavy rain.

Do I need planning permission?

Many rear extensions don't, because they count as “permitted development”. Conservation areas and listed buildings have stricter rules, though. Check your address on the Planning Portal or ask your council. If you need drawings for an application, we can provide elevations of your doors.

What about Building Regulations? I don't have an architect.

That's fine. Your builder deals with building control for the extension. For the doors, the main points are insulation, safety glass and security, and we provide the figures and certificates for all three. If the extension has a lot of glass (more than about a quarter of its floor area), an energy calculation called SAP is needed. It's a routine step done by an energy assessor, not a ban, and we give them the numbers they need.

Are they secure?

We specify to the PAS 24 security standard, with multi-point locks and toughened or laminated safety glass.

How do the glass panels get into my house?

Big panels are heavy, so we plan the route from the street at the survey. Sometimes it's through the house, and occasionally it needs a small crane, which may need a council permit. We handle that and tell you in advance.

You're a new company. Why should I trust you?

That's a fair question. You can see a full-size corner of your actual door before you order. You pay in stages, never all up front. Our own team does the fitting, and everything is in writing. Read about our founding projects, which open to homeowners as well as architects.

Tell us the size of the opening. We'll do the rest.
